Vitamins Or Minerals That Could Make You Lose Your Eye Sight
Vitamins and minerals are important for the body and help in many ways in having a healthy body. Vitamins and minerals are not only required for body metabolism, they are also essential for maintaining the health of your eyes. So, it is a fallacy to believe that vitamins and minerals can make you lose your eyesight. This is not a fact. |
In fact, having low levels of vitamins, especially Vitamin A, Vitamin B1 and Vitamin B2 in the body can lead to certain eye conditions that can cause loss of vision, for instance cataract.
In many developing countries where people do not have access to proper food and nutrition, Vitamin A deficiency is quite common. In fact, this deficiency is a problem all over the world when it comes to young kids and women who are pregnant. In children, a deficiency of Vitamin A can lead to childhood blindness. In others, deficiency of the vitamin can lead to night blindness, double vision and pink eyes.
It has been seen that people who are suffering from night blindness and also dry eyes, if given supplements of Vitamin A improve almost immediately. It has also been seen that the incidence of cataracts in people can be reduced by giving them supplements of the vitamin.
Deficiency of Vitamin B1 and Vitamin B2 can also lead to eye problems. People who have deficiency of Vitamin B1 can end up with a disorder known as beriberi, which may be fatal. People who suffer from glaucoma invariably have low levels of Vitamin B1 in their blood. While deficiency of Vitamin B2 can lead to inflammation of the eyes, and constant inflammations and infections of the eye can irreversibly damage the cornea. Deficiency of Vitamin B2 is quite prevalent in developing countries.
Therefore, it can be said that these vitamins mentioned above actually help in reducing incidents of eye problems that could lead to blindness rather than having the opposite effect.
