Heart And Junk Food

A healthy diet ensures a healthy mind. A balanced diet that is rich in nutrients has an important role to play in preserving general health and provides protection against other conditions such as cancer.

Junk food is that type of food that does not carry any nutritional value and is considered to be unhealthy. These foods lack in nutrients like proteins, vitamins, fiber, minerals and other essential elements. On the contrary, junk food is rich in various harmful ingredients that include fat, carbohydrates, salt, sugar, preservatives, and food additives such as monosodium glutamate and tartrazine. Some examples of junk food include hamburgers, pizzas, French fries, potato chips, pastries and cheese burgers. Even carbonated and aerated water are considered to be junk foods that are really harmful. Some important health complications caused due to junk food include abnormal digestion, bloating, acidity, hypertension, piles, constipation, diarrhea, diabetes and liver damage.

According to a study conducted on the harmful effects of junk foods, it has been found that these foods significantly increase the level of risk factors that can cause heart diseases such as high blood pressure and atherosclerosis. In all the subjects that were considered for study, cholesterol levels in the blood were abnormally high in comparison with their age. Other risk factors that were found to be very much prevalent among the participants were obesity, overweight, thickening of blood vessels and high blood pressure. All the factors have a phenomenal role to play in augmenting the danger of heart diseases in adulthood.

Consumption of junk food is more a severe problem in teenagers and children. In most cases, children often get addicted to these foods resulting in harmful complications at a later stage. Hence, it is very important to get rid of these habits as early as possible to ensure a better tomorrow.
