Lesson Plan About Healthy Foods

Children are the future of tomorrow. It is the responsibility of the teachers to get them acquainted with food that are healthy and beneficial for health.

A school needs to incorporate a good lesson plan that allows students and children to understand about different types of healthy foods and their health benefits.

Below is one such sample of lesson plan about healthy foods that teacher can use at school to educate kids..

Objective: To make student understand about the definition of “healthy food”, identify the food pyramid and encourage him to pick out few healthy foods using the food pyramid. These foods will then be categorized into breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner.

Materials Required: Large display of food pyramid, card game, magazine clippings of foods, paper and glue.

Activity:

  1. Point to the large food pyramid on the display and make the students understand about different categories of foods present inside the food pyramid.
  2. Then, the students must be made to understand in brief about the importance of each food group.
  3. To make the story more interesting, the teacher can segregate the food clippings into groups like vegetables, fruits, cereals, dairy products, meat products and poultry products. Each one of these can be handed over to all the students. Then, the teacher can ask those students who have vegetables in their hands to get up. This can be continued until all the food groups are done. This will enable the students to identify themselves with all the types of healthy foods available.
  4. Now, when the students have got a fair picture, magazines can be handed over to them. Teacher can ask the students to identify some healthy foods from the food pyramid and cut them out from the magazine. These can be pasted on the paper using glue.
