Causes Of Salmonella
Salmonella is an infectious disease that is caused due to consumption of raw eggs or undercooked chicken. It is a type of bacteria that can even spread when contaminated chicken is cut in a chopping board or handled by a cook which further gets transmitted to other foods that comes in contact with them. In few instances, salmonella has also been found amongst children, who handle pets like turtle or iguana and ingest food with those dirty and infected hands without washing them. |
Traces of salmonella bacteria are also found in the stool of the infected person for many weeks after the primary illness. Poor sanitation habits of these infected people might further spread the disease to others.
The indications of salmonella food poisoning are like any other food borne diseases such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort including fever. The motion is generally watery, but it does not contain mucus or blood. The bacteria once gets hold of a human body usually go after about a week or two on its own. Any severe conditions due to salmonella food poisoning are uncommon. It can become serious only if the bacteria manage to penetrate the blood stream.
Through blood stream it can make its entry to any organ causing organ infection. Some of the infections include any form of bone infection like osteomyelitis, joint infections like arthritis, and infections of outer covering of brain and spinal cord like meningitis, liver infections like hepatitis and lung infections such as pneumonia.
