Food Safety In School Cafeterias

In order to evade the entry of food borne diseases in the school cafeterias the staff and the management must look into the food safety norms very seriously. Over the years the emphasis has been laid on the food safety norms in the fast food centers and the restaurants but it has somehow been missed in the school cafeterias.

The USFDA has now issued guidelines under which a school cafeteria is bound to adhere to certain food safety standards. This has been especially made for the grounded beef which many of these cafeterias are using for making burgers. A school cafeteria will now have to follow the rules of same beef cooking practices that the restaurants or other fast food outlets are using.

The cafeteria staff have been asked to check an internal temperature of the beef after every fifteen minutes when it is being cooked. Beef carries all notorious germs, and children are vulnerable to get affected by these very soon. According to the latest rules, the school cafeterias are required to follow certain safety measures regarding food handling and its practices. The management running these cafeterias is required to be well trained themselves and must carry out training programs for the staff. A staff is allowed to work only when he is sufficiently trained.

The food service staffs are required to strictly adhere to established guidelines regarding food purchase, storage, preparation, handling and distribution. Safe practices only will minimize the risk of outbreak of food borne diseases and would help the school to safeguard itself from lawsuits and bad reputation.
