Food Poisoning Symptoms

Many mistake the food poisoning symptoms with diarrhea or dysentery. Although food poisoning actually leads to diarrhea if not treated in time but its symptoms are slightly milder than the symptoms of diarrhea or dysentery.

The main indications of food poisoning are nausea, vomiting, mild diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Food poisoning usually is not so serious and goes in a day or two on its own. Salmonella and staphylococcus bacteria results in food poisoning At times, the botulism symptoms can also known to be associated with food poisoning.

Those who get affected due to salmonella bacteria are likely to have symptoms similar to flu and this type of bacterial infection may last for about a week. Those who get affected by the bacteria staphylococcus show indications such as fever, vomiting, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. These symptoms surface out after six hours of consumption of contaminated food. Mostly all dairy products and fish become the victims of germination of staphylococcus bacteria.

Consumption of unhygienic food is the main reason of food poisoning sometimes the case may become serious giving rise to botulism which is primarily caused by interference of a bacterial toxin called botulinum. This toxin directly affects the central nervous system and person affected could become paralytic if not treated in time. The symptoms of botulism are nausea, dryness in mouth, vomiting, abdominal pain blurred vision. It weakens the muscles controlling power that starts from the face and follows downwards towards the neck. Person becomes unable to swallow anything. If medical assistance is provided in time person affected can be saved otherwise it becomes fatal.
