How Long To Boil Lobster Tails ?

Though there are views that lobster tails should never be boiled and only whole lobsters should be boiled, one can find people boiling lobster tails regularly. Usually when tails are boiled, they tend to get soggy and lose their taste. The common problem that most people face in this is the time that they should let the lobster tails boil. There are different views on how long a lobster tail needs to be boiled.

According to one of the views, you should boil lobster tail for 1 minute for each ounce, which means if someone is boiling a 5 ounce lobster tail, then it has to be boiled for 5 minutes.  Though there is no harm in adding a few more minutes to the boiling time so that the lobster tail is completely done.

Another way of boiling lobster tails is to drop the tails in a large pot of boiling water, in which salt is added. The amount of salt added should be 1tsp for each quart of water. When the water starts re-boiling, the heat should be lowered, and then you should start timing the minutes. As mentioned earlier, the time to boil lobster tails depends on the weight of the tails.

Some chefs believe that a lobster tail of 1 to 3 ounces should be boiled for 3 to 5 minutes, a tail of 4 to 6 ounces for 5 to 7 minutes, a tail of 10 to 12 ounces for 10 to 12 minutes, and a tail of 14 to 16 ounces should be boiled for 15 to 20 minutes.
