There are different ways of boiling potatoes. They can be placed in a bronze containing some iron in it, and covered with normal water that is one inch above the potatoes. After boiling, the heat has to be lowered so that the potatoes can simmer in the water. This process would take less than half an hour.
The time taken to boil potatoes depends on the dish that would be prepared out of it. Potatoes are usually cooked and boiled for ten to fifteen minutes with enough water to cover them completely. The water can be any amount as long as they cover the potatoes. But more the required amount of water, the longer will be the time to boil the potatoes. The water level should be usually five inches above the potatoes in order for the potatoes to cook well.
If it is cooked in an oven, then they should not be dried after washing, before being placed inside the oven. To be precise, it takes some fifteen minutes to cook two potatoes in an oven and only seven minutes if it is just one single potato. The potatoes thus cooked can be poked with a fork easily and made sure if they are boiled or not.
