Grill Cooking Potatoes
Potatoes are very easy to grill and do not require too much of care when compared to many other vegetables. They can be used as whole or cut into slices. For baking potatoes on the grill, wrap them individually in aluminum foil which is smeared with oil and also seasoned with salt, pepper and other herbs of your choice. This would keep the potatoes moist and also add flavor. |
Baked potatoes are done when you are able to pierce them with a fork easily until the center. Generally, it takes 45 minutes in the oven with medium heat.
If you slice the potatoes while grilling, they cook faster. But they should be thick enough to be grilled. If they are too thin, they may keep falling on to the fire. It is recommended to cut the potatoes into half lengthwise and again cut each of the halves into eight wedges. Maintain at least a thickness of ¼ inch to handle them easily. Keep them perpendicular to the grate while grilling. You can put these wedges in packets made of foil and season it with olive oil, herbs, bacon pieces, bell peppers, onion chips and also balsamic vinegar. You can avoid cheese as it may burn. Grill the potatoes in medium heat. The wedges may take approximately 20 – 30 minutes to cook. Once you remove them, be careful while opening the foil packets as there may be a lot of hot steam trapped inside.
If you can keep a close eye on the wedges, you can also choose to cook them straight on the grill over medium heat until they turn soft. This would almost take 20 minutes and you may have to keep turning to prevent charring of the potatoes.
