Asparagus Tips For Cooking
Asparagus is a vegetable that is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants. It is a vegetable that everyone likes, including children. However, cooking it correctly so that it tastes delicious may not be for everyone. So, here are some easy asparagus tips for cooking. |
Asparagus -- Tips for Cooking:
- To steam asparagus, bundle the spears and tie it together at the bottom making sure the ends are leveled. Place this bundle in a tall vessel containing boiling water almost up to 2 inches. Depending upon the spears thickness, you can cover and steam anywhere between five to eight minutes. When you boil the ends, the bright green tips get steamed and become tender.
- To use asparagus in salads, you need to blanch them. Plunge the boiled or steamed asparagus into cold water as soon you remove from the hot vessel. This would preserve the crispy texture and also make the spears tender.
- For roasting asparagus in a microwave, preheat the oven to about 450 degrees. Lay the asparagus on a baking sheet and smear it with olive oil. You may have to roast it for about eight to ten minutes to complete cooking process
- You can also stir fry asparagus with about a teaspoon of olive oil or sesame for about 3 minutes. Cut the spears diagonally to a thickness of about 1.5 to 2 inches for stir frying.
- For grilling, you need to place the asparagus spears on a medially preheated grill sprayed with olive oil. Keep turning the spears occasionally and cook anywhere between five to eight minutes until the spears become tender
- You can preserve asparagus up to a period of nine months by freezing. Blanch the spears by plunging them into boiling water, remove them and dip in chilled water immediately. Drain and pack in containers and freeze them immediately. Serve the spears after warming as refrigeration could reduce the flavor.
