Cooking Pasta For A Crowd

Generally, pastas take about 10 minutes to cook properly even in small quantities. While you have to serve pasta for a whole crowd, it may be difficult to find that much time to cook pasta on the spot and serve it hot. To escape this cooking delay, the best approach is to parboil the pasta which involves pre-cooking the pasta partially and storing them in such a way that once you reheat it for about three minutes, they become fully cooked, or al dente as the connoisseurs of pasta would say.

This actually can relax you when your guests arrive and you would be able to spend a lot of time with them than rushing to the kitchen for cooking the pasta. Also, if you have to provide for a crowd of more than 30 people, you would be able to serve delicious pasta in no time and avoid people standing in a queue. This precooking of pasta is also done in restaurants so that the order is served in just minutes.

To parboil the pasta, boil at least 6 quarts of salted water for a pound of pasta and keep stirring until it submerges. In the case of linguine or spaghetti, the pasta would wilt. When the water starts boiling fully, cook pasta for exactly two minutes at this stage, drain the water, immediately put the pasta in ice cold water and drain immediately. Ensure that the pasta varieties which come as strands like spaghetti or linguine which could become brittle do not break.

You can place the pasta in a suitable dish and store them for up to six hours before cooking. While you want to cook, you can again boil salted water and add the softened pasta for about two minutes.
